hvac systemAs humans have evolved, they have created a wonderful system that is used in homes across the nation. HVAC systems were designed to keep us comfortable in our homes no matter the temperature or time of year. Thanks to this miraculous invention, humans no longer have to try and brave the harsh elements of mother nature. Now, we can control the temperature of our homes with the push of a button.

We have air conditioning, heating, and even humidifying technology inside modern homes to make sure that we are always as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, these systems in our homes do not last forever. They need repair and eventually need to be replaced. Here are four warning signs to look for indicating that your home furnace needs to be replaced.

Your Furnace Is Old

Furnaces only last so long. In fact, they are expected to last for about 20 years. If your furnace is older than that, it might be time to consider replacement. There is only so much heating repair that can be done to a furnace before the furnace has officially bitten the dust. So before you pay yet another furnace repair bill, ask your HVAC installation team about replacement options.

Your Energy Bill Is Too High

Although energy bills fluctuate throughout the year, they should be relatively predictable. If you know that last month was really cold, then you can expect your heating bill to be higher than normal. But you if your energy bills are higher than you expect them to be or are fluctuating in an unusual pattern, your furnace may be reaching the end of its life.

Your Furnace Is Loud

All furnaces make some noise, especially when they kick on. However, if you notice that your furnace is extra noisy, something might be wrong. Rattling, popping, or clanging noises are common sounds that indicate something within your furnace is not functioning properly. Each noise can have its own meaning, so to speak, so it is important to have an HVAC contractor come and take a look at your furnace.

The Temperature Is Never Comfortable

If you find yourself constantly adjusting the temperature on your thermostat to be comfortable, something is probably wrong with your furnace. Likewise, if all of the rooms in your house feel like a different temperature, there may be a serious flaw lurking within your HVAC system. So if you’re warm in the bathroom but freezing cold in the bedroom, then this could mean that you need to buy a new furnace.
